Dark Farewell: Etawah Man's Tragic End After Family Murder

Mukesh Verma, a goldsmith from the Etawah town of Uttar Pradesh, killed his wife (45) and three children aged eighteen, sixteen, and eleven by poisoning all of them.

He posted on his status, ‘Everything is over’  after the act. This painful goodbye on social networks suggested the terrible series of events that led to horror beyond imagination. After the alleged murders, he tried to commit suicide by lying down on the railway track.

The latest status update that the man posted shocked his friends and loved ones. Not only are they unable to understand how the situation developed to become tragic. The local authorities were informed when the status update was created. Now, authorities are trying to put together all his actions and goals.

This tragedy has started a conversation about mental health and family expectations, especially in areas where sometimes community-set standards and individual challenges meet in destructive, hidden wars.

Inside The Tragedy

A shocking crime was committed in Etawah, Uttar Pradesh where a goldsmith Mukesh Verma poisoned his wife and three children. His wife Rekha, was 45 years old, his elder daughter Bhavya was 18 years old, his younger daughter Kavya was 16 years old and his son was 11 years old.

He poisoned these four till they died, and after their death, he put the status with their pictures: ‘Everything is over’. Then after locking the bodies in the house, he arrived at the railway track to commit suicide. He lay down on the railway track and the Marudhar Express train also rolled over his body but it did not harm him. And by then the police caught him.

The frosty post, confounding everyone was a puff, a final goodbye from the soulless to society, friends, and relatives. The family was said to be a law-abiding and related term, therefore, the gruesome act could not be easily explained.

In verbal reports, authorities were informed and went to the scene but arrived only after the murder had occurred. Now, there seems to be a renewed interest in possible preconditions of the catastrophe, such as mental issues, financial troubles, or social pressure.

The case still brings a dark tone to silent issues in families and shows how necessary those support services are that may prevent such occurrences. While people in Etawah wept over the tragedy, everyone was left wondering how darkness they could not see caused the death of so many.

Lessons To Be Learned

The story that took place in Etawah made me understand the importance of considering mental health, family, and other obligatory circumstances in our societies. Far too frequently, people experiencing incredible stress and troubled states do not need to talk to anyone or find support.

This case shows drastically what happens when people do not seek help regarding mental health problems and the stress set aside eventually turns into a major problem. The culture of privacy around mental health issues generally continues to enshroud the society with several people suffering in secret until when their conditions worsen.

Enhancing mental health literacy remains very important, especially for people living in rural and small-town areas due to the shortage of mental health service providers. Helping to improve the strength of communities in observing the signs of distress and communicating freely, as well as enabling them to foster empathy to support the people in need. It is a step towards realizing that goal.

Moreover, it is high time to discuss social factors such as material concerns, family issues, and pressure to stay in a particular income bracket. This increases additional pressure on people who already have emotional problems. It helps to cultivate a culture of understanding and appreciating mental health just as much as physical health. It can stop tragedies like this one that can be averted and those in need of support before reaching a boiling point can be embraced before it’s too late.
